You’ve fallen in love your perfect wedding dress just as hard as you’ve fallen for the love of your life. So, now what? Have you given any thought to your shoes?
Ladies, it’s all about the details.
And, forget tradition. Make the shoes about you.
Wearing a big fluffy white dress might be slightly uncomfortable. Maybe not how it fits or feels, but how you feel. It’s not like you wear one every day.
Here’s your opportunity to wear something that is totally you, a chance to let your personality shine.
Just like Marilyn Monroe once said, “Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.”
This is something I live by, not only on my wedding day but truly every other day.
I had one requirement when I bought my wedding shoes. I wanted a pair that I would actually wear beyond the big day. Why let an awesome pair of shoes just sit there in the box?
Here’s what I wore long, long ago (don’t mind the dirty toe prints!):
These shoes were the perfect bit of sparkle and uniqueness.
I love the champagne color. They are neutral, but far from traditional white. Just classic enough with a little bit of glam.
For the record, I have worn them plenty of times after my wedding day — for special times and nights out on the town. These shoes have been that little memento that I’ve been able to, how do I put it, relive my wedding day years down the road.
Truth be told, shoes make the outfit!
Here are my three top priorities when selecting bridal shoes:
- Comfort. You really have to figure that you’ll be wearing these shoes for about 12 hours, give or take. The last thing you want is to aid blisters and sore feet on your honeymoon. I’m not saying wear your running shoes (although it’s not a bad idea), but if you have to cram your foot into them at the store, move on to the next pair. And one more thing, walk, walk, walk! Be sure you can walk with elegance and grace. All eyes will be on you.
- Versatility. Whether you spend a few bucks or pour your life savings into the perfect shoe, make sure you can wear them again. It’s just a waste to let a pair of your favorite shoes only be worn once! Choose something you can wear from time to time, even if it’s to do the dishes or maybe to, uh-um, surprise your partner! Your shoes will remind you of your special day, and could quite possibly be a great conversation starter.
- Uniqueness. Go for a shoe that screams your personality. Maybe it’s your style or color or your favorite hobby? Make them all about you. Take the opportunity to get your guests talking when they get a peek under your dress.
Let’s get a peek of the endless possibilities for a bit.
